Ticket to lecture dinner with Cat McNicol

Join us for the latest in our series of popular winter lecture dinners at Trelowarren on the 10th November.

We will be joined by Catherine McNicol who is working with the Vincent Wildlife Trust on pine marten recovery. Cat is specifically investigating the impacts of pine marten reintroduction on grey squirrels. In particular Cat is investigating pine marten diet, behaviour and spatial ecology which is especially pertinent to our red squirrel reintroduction project in Cornwall. We are therefore very pleased Cat is able to join us and bring us up to date on the latest research with pine marten, and hear how the Vincent Wildlife Trust pine marten project is progressing. We know this topic is of interest to lots of you as we are often asked about it when we hold events so please come and along and feel free to bring any burning questions with you!

The evening will also be an opportunity to see the newly constructed red squirrel breeding enclosures at Trelowarren. We are working with Paradise Park, in Hayle, and the National Studbook for Red Squirrels to stock these pens with captive bred red squirrels. These will then become the nucleus of our eventual release population of red squirrels. If you'd like to join us for this bring wellies, a coat and a torch!

The evening will start at 6pm when we'll meet for drinks, and those who would like to see the enclosures can head out for a short winter walk. Dinner will follow at 7pm and the talk at 8.30pm. It will be held in the New Yard Resturant, Trelowarren, Mawgan, Helston,  TR12 6AF.

Book your tickets in our online shop, and then email your menu choices to Natasha.collings@rsst.org.uk. Tickets are £45 per person. Dress code is smart casual but don't forget your wellies and a torch if you'd like to join our winter walk to the squirrel enclosures!

Fineran Bodygrip trap

We are pleased to announce that the CRSP designed Trap Boxes we use in the field for grey squirrel removal are now available to buy.

The trap boxes are produced by Fourteenacre Traps to a design devised by our trapper, David Fineran. The traps come with a specially designed tree-mountable box which guides grey squirrels into the Bodygrip trap. Bodygrip traps are licenced for UK use for grey squirrel control. Baited with hazelnuts these boxes are very attractive to grey squirrels but once installed in a tree appear like a bird or bat box to passers by.

Please note this item is collection only from West Cornwall. If you require postage please contact us first so we can calculate postage costs for you: natasha.collings@rsst.org.uk
